Chico & Milo's Dog House

As I sit and contemplate how things are going with me, my life, my business, my job, I am reminded of one of my favorite dog sayings:

"When you feel dog tired at night, it may be because you've growled all day long." - Unknown

So my February lesson of the day is to remember my poor little Jack. He was a beautiful amazing dog. A little blue chihuahua. He changed after life changed on him. His "sister" who he had been bonded with his entire life died. He developed a horrible infection in his toe and lost his toe. Afterwards, he was never the same. He growled, snarled and complained all day long. If another dog looked at him, looked in the kitchen, looked at a toy, walked by him, looked at the food bowl. Didn't matter. Just anything that even remotely resembled showing up in his territory, which became everything in the universe. We tried so many things with him, anxiety meds, extra attention, separating him, etc. But I think when he lost Brandy and then his toe, it was too much for him. The lesson in that is to remind me to not focus on what is lost, but on what the future holds.

Mornings at my house...

So here's how I spend my mornings

4:40 a.m. - alarm goes off. Mom lays in bed for 10 minutes then kicks us all out of the house to the back yard.
5:10 a.m. - mom's done with the shower, but she waits for dad to finish his and won't let us in. We not so patiently wait at the back door.
5:30 a.m. - Finally mom let's us back in and we race to the bed to see her and get some much needed petting and loving
5:35 a.m. - Mom is still ignoring us as she thinks it is FAR more important to play Mafia Wars and she says we are interferring with her computer. Move to Dad, who is busy reading email on his Iphone.
5:40 a.m. - MAYBE, if we are lucky, they will finally pet us. In the meantime, we have had to entertain ourselves on the bed with toys and each other.
5:45 a.m. - frantic dressing by the parents as they get ready for work.
6:00 a.m. - woohoo - chicken jerky time! Finally something good for the day!
6:15 a.m. - like lambs being led to slaughter, mom tells us boys it's time to head to the bathroom for the day. Something about leg lifting. We race to the bathroom like fools because, like all boys, we think with our stomachs and there are some really cool chicken wraps in there for us.
6:20 a.m. - Chicken wraps eaten. Now we settle in for 10 hours in the bathroom until they come home. What WERE we thinking when we raced to the bathroom for that 5 minutes of pure bliss? Ho hum.

Next week we will talk about the evenings in our house!

Lolliepop, the japanese chin (aka Ninja Warrior)

Why is it that a 3 lb. little Japanese Chin runt can kick everyone's butt! Bogie (the Boston Terrier) is a non-stop play machine, but even he wears out before this little ball of fire does! So we have nicknamed her Ninja. I swear she uses Ninja techniques on us when playing with us. Just this morning, as I was patiently trying to wait for my chicken jerky, she starts grabbing my ear and trying to haul me around the house. Something about my ears being defective (they don't stand like most chihuahua's ears do). So I not so politely pointed out to her that she is an ear reject as well since one of her ears has white on it. The horror of it all! Geez. For that, she grabbed me by my back leg and started dragging me across the bed. Some girls are just so touchy! You would think I told her she had a big butt or something!

BRRRRRR. It was COLD in Texas

So we just got back from a weekend dog show. Selling lots of cool things for Milo's store, but it was soooooo cold in Glen Rose, Texas. In an agricultural facility there, that had a roof but that was about it. Mom was wearing 3 pairs of socks, 2 coats, a sweatshirt, gloves, etc. etc. and still freezing. We bunkered down in a stroller with coats and were still so cold. Texas isn't supposed to be like this! Silly weather!

It's been way too long

since we have posted here. So much has happened to us. We have new brothers and sisters. Well, one of each actually. A Japanese Chin who thinks she is a Ninja Warrior. You should see her in action! She is one tough cookie. Crazy. Then there's this Boston Terrier, Bogie, who fancies himself as a ladies' man. Problem is that the Ninja Warrier, who is onlyl 3 lbs., kicks his ass. It's the funniest thing you ever saw. This little spitfire taking on the 15 lb. Boston and winning virtually every time. But come to think of it, she kicks Milo's ass too. Seriously, do all Japanese Chins get Ninja training when they are born? They must.

Halloween or Bust! Getting Ready for Year End Parties at Da House!

Man, I can’t believe Halloween is already here! Thought I had plenty of dog treats on hand for all the visitors to our “Dog House”, but I think that darn cat Slasher keeps taking them to give to his cat friends! Now I’m worried we won’t have enough for the party! And don’t get me started on decorations! Every time I try to put up streamers (which is darn hard for a 3-legged dog) he comes along and shreds them! Even my costume isn't safe from Slasher…I wanted to dress up as Mickey Mouse this year (I kinda look like him – only more handsome), but when I put on the costume, here comes Slasher out of nowhere and he blindsides me! He knocked me off my feet (how embarrassing), and then pinned me down and hissed in my face. My barking seemed to wake him up finally, and when he realized where he was (and what he was doing), he ran off as fast as he could!

Good thing too, I would've given him a good tongue lashing if he'd stuck around! Luckily (for me and my self esteem), Milo and Sasha were outside making googlely eyes at each other – well, at least Sasha was making eyes at Milo…As usual, Milo was too busy playing with an ice cream cone toy we have...that lunatic dog thinks that thing is real and keeps trying to find the ice cream in it. There are times I wonder why Sasha has fallen for Milo so hard, especially when I'm available and, personally, I think I'm a better "catch."

So, I think I'll try moving on to Thanksgiving plans now – less cat appealing, I hope. Boy, we're going to need a bunch of things for the kitchen – a new breed specific paper towel holder , a few dog butlers to hold all our personal items, like dog treats, dog toys , our dog coats (as the weather will probably be really cold by then). We will also probably need those some of those dog figurine cork bottle stoppers so we can keep all the drinks fresh and flowing! I'm thinking apple cider, although Milo, being the coca cola fanatic that he is, will probably need a couple bottle stoppers for his hidden coca cola stash.

I need to make sure our guests have lots of places to lay down and stretch a bit (you know, for sleepy guests), so I need to get some dog beds as well. I think a few of the new Puppy Pawds – nice and snuggly. And I'd like a dog stroller or 2 for the little pups (and they're good for small 3-legged dogs, too)!

Hurricane Ike - What WAS that????

Can someone tell me what I missed? Obviously somewhere in my rearing, no one bothered to explain to me, in puppy terms, exactly what heavy winds and thundering rain meant. The only thing I know is that it was so incredibly noisy, it kept waking me and my family up.

Then I get up the next morning and see the puppy gods have obviously shined down on me as instead of having to lift my leg to pee on a tree, the trees are all down on the ground waiting for me to jump on them, lift my leg on them, do whatever I want to do with them. Can't tell you how good bark tastes! Yum. Mom says she needs the power back on in the house so she can vacuum up all the pieces of bark I have carried inside the house. I don't get it. I mean, why did she tear them all down if she didn't want me to play on the trees. She claims it wasn't her that did it, but I just don't know.

Mom and dad act like something is wrong, but I know me and my chi buddies are having the best old time in the back yard with all the trees - and gee, the fence is down too! Which doesn't make sense either. Seems like mom wanted us to know we had a bigger play ground now, then she puts a leash on us for our own back yard.

Moms ... they make no sense. But she says hurricanes make no sense.hope everyone else is well.

I'm going to go look around my house and see if I can find something to eat.

That Dang Cat!!!!

THAT DANG CAT IS SLASHING PRICES AGAIN!!!

That darn cat!! We call him Slasher as he thinks it is fun to slash everything. One time I came home and found my favorite toy slashed. That was bad enough, but this time, he has gone and slashed prices on tons of items in my store. You would think he owned the store or something. But nah, he just hangs out and stirs up trouble.

All we wanted was a fun evening out and about. We went to see the new Batman movie, and when I came home, I had spilled butter on my shirt (I love popcorn). So off I head to the washing machine and what do I find in there? Slasher. Trying to hide the evidence of his slashing - pieces of shredded up price tags strewn all around. He took off like the roadrunner and while trying to catch him, I slid on the other part of his daily escapades, our shopping cart. He has adjusted it so that all standard shipping is now free!!!! Can you believe that? I would fix it if I knew how, but since I haven't been trained on the shopping cart, I guess it is going to stay.

You know what I think I'm going to have to do? Catch the little rascal. I think I'll even offer a $100 reward for merchandise in my store. Stay tuned as I'll send out details soon on how you can help me catch slasher! But I promise I won't "penalize" you by raising the prices on the sale item or undoing the free standard shipping offer. What the heck? I'm feeling generous today! But I would like to catch him and chase him around the house for awhile!

So, I think that's it for today.

Party planning

Woo hoo!!! Party time iis coming!. Who'd thunk? We be real, ya know. Well at least real in our minds!

I hear there is someone in the community with a big crush on me. I am so curious who that might be. They say she swoons when she sees me. So I'm going to get all decked out for our big housewarming party. I know there is a white tuxedo I can get somewhere for the party. I'm thinking the white tails against my black coat will make me quite the looker!

Chico is busy decorating the house for the party. I see him over there with that bowls of dog biscuits. I told him to make sure they were the caviar of dog biscuits - we only want the best for our guests!

Caitlyn's K9 Boutique has moved. The e-boxes have been moved. The time came for Milo to share the spotlight with Chico. Now Caitlyn's K9 is now Chico & Milo's Dog House, more specifically www.chicoandmilos.com.

Don't be sad. Chico and Milo are quite the hipsters. They've made new friends in their new 'hood. Some could even say "puppy love" is in the air.
